Smithsonian Horticultural received delivery and training on it new ATSS – Asset Tracking Software System from ScanLink Corp./IDM Company. IDM Company made a few modifications to its printing process to accommodate the Checkpoint TSPX5 thermal transfer printer used by nursery’s to print on plastic stick and hanging tags for plants. Specific information was required to be printed with the identifying bar code label. Smithsonian will now be able to attach specific Genera, species and origin information to the plants as well as follow where they are located in the greenhouse or if they are out on display.

The system will track all historical activity once the plant is identified using either Symbol PPT8800 portable data terminals with synchronized data from ATSS or manual entry into ATSS software. Future integration into their BG database software will allow the Smithsonian to make one entry of information into ATSS and update BG database.
